The 2016 All-San Pedro News Pilot Prep Boys Soccer Team

The 2015-2016 seasons for San Pedro, Port Of Los Angeles and Mary Star Of The Sea High boys soccer all ended with a winning or even record, with the Stars coming out with the best of seasons, as they won the Camino Real League championship and advancing to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs.

Sophomore forward Victor Garnier came away with a spectacular season, posting a trio of games where he scored four goals, including in a 5-0 league victory at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Montebello on January 20. Garnier, who also made first team All-Camino Real League, is the 2016 San Pedro News Pilot Prep Boys Soccer Player Of The Year.

Senior goalie Nick DiLeva could also make that same claim, posting 11 shutouts, seven of them in league, as the Camino Real League Most Valuable Goalkeeper is also the News Pilot Prep Boys Soccer Goalie Of The Year. Mary Star coach Chris Guastella is Coach Of The Year after guiding the Stars to a 17-4-1 overall record, and they also won a 3-1 decision against neighbor POLA on December 7.

San Pedro and coach Peter Hazdovac started off the year winning eight of their first ten games before fizzling a bit in the Marine League, but the Pirates still finished 13-6-1 overall, and the league runner up at 6-3-1, with a pair of victories over rival Narbonne of Harbor City and a 3-1 win over POLA being some of their biggest victories.

A devastating loss for the Pirates came in the opening round of the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division 1 playoffs where they fell 1-0 to host Bell in double overtime, but it didn't diminish their season one bit.

Speaking of the Polar Bears, they finished 9-7-4 overall under returning coach Vic Lopez, and they placed second in the Crosstown League at 7-3-2  However, POLA didn't make the CIF-LACS Division 4 playoffs.
