Tiffany Torres' Hot Start Powers POLAHS Girls Soccer To Semis

Knowing that this might be their final home game of the 2012-2013 season, the Port Of Los Angeles High girls soccer team wanted to give their home crowd and loyal followers something to remember.

In the case of sophomore forward Tiffany Torres, it was all about taking her game to new heights.

The two-year veteran would assist or score on three consecutive goals to power the host Polar Bears to a 6-0 victory over Bernstein of Hollywood in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section Division III quarterfinals at Daniels Field. Torres would score two goals, and assist on junior forward Samantha Foxworthy's game-opening goal.

Junior goalie Nicole Sierra didn't face a shot on goal to get the shutout for the third-seeded Polar Bears (17-5-1 overall), who have now won ten games in a row.

It didn't take long for Torres to make her presence known.

First, she blasts a high cross pass that set up a perfect header opportunity for Foxworthy to power through for a 1-0 POLA lead, then later on Torres would score off an assist from Foxworthy where she used her uncanny flexibility while adjusting in midair to blast in Foxworthy's cross pass for a 2-0 Polar Bears advantage that held up before the intermission.

Kicking off the second half in stride, Torres would score again off her own header from a perfect feed by sophomore midfielder Isabela Van Antwerp, who would later score off a breakaway to quickly push POLA's lead up to 4-0 before the Dragons (9-8-2) could even blink. Senior midfielder Alyssa Bristol would power through a goal at point blank range off Van Antwerp's second assist to extend the lead even further.

Finally, senior forward Nikki Bonilla, who had an earlier goal wiped out due to a mischievous off-sides call, would be vindicated later with an easy goal after a perfect feed from Bristol to polish off the victory for the Polar Bears, who will travel to face second-seeded Fulton College Prep of Van Nuys in Thursday's semifinal round.

The Polar Bears defeated Fulton College Prep, 2-0 in last year's semifinals at Daniels Field.
