For one with many accolades, Mary Star High softball pitching legend Marina Vitalich has one more left that she can claim.
The 2015 and four-time San Pedro News Pilot Prep Softball Player Of The Year, four-time All-CIF Southern Section selection, three-time Cal-Hi Sports All-State Small Schools selection and four-time Daily Breeze All-Area South Bay selection she was named to the MaxPreps.com California State Small Schools All-State Softball Team.
The George Mason-bound Vitalich finished 22-4 (also Mary Star's 2015 overall record) with a 0.54 ERA and 367 strikeouts, hurling 18 shutouts and 24 complete games.
Vitalich also put her name in the record books, as her 1,154 career strikeouts put her eighth all-time in the CIF-Southern Section, while also pacing the Stars to the CIF-SS Division V quarterfinals.
In her final game in a Mary Star uniform, Vitalich hurled four shutout innings with five strikeouts in helping the Blue All-Stars defeat the Red All-Stars, 6-3 in the 23rd Annual South Bay Athletic Club Senior Softball All-Star game at Recreation Park on June 10.
Vitalich was joined by Marymount (California)-bound Johnie Cortez of San Pedro, and the Port Of Los Angeles duo of Yavapai-bound Savana Ramirez and Laura Leos on the Blue Team, while the Red Team featured fellow 2015 San Pedro News Pilot Prep Softball Co-Player Of The Year, POLA's Eastern Michigan-bound Nicolle Miranda and Rose Garcia, San Pedro's Taylor Richter and Vitalich's Mary Star teammate, infielder Lexie Geich.
