I am greatly saddened to learn of the death of San Pedro resident Steve Saggiani, killed tragically Thursday evening, while performing his duties as a longshoreman at the Port of Long Beach. As a person who has family and many friends in the ILWU, I would like to express my deepest personal sympathies and condolences to the Saggiani family and to all his brothers and sisters of the ILWU.
Working as a longshoreman, loading and unloading the ships that import and export the conveniences of modern life is exhausting and dangerous work. "An Injury To One, Is An Injury To All," and today, I too feel the pain and sorrow of the loss of one of our own.
May you rest in peace Steve and may God watch over your brothers and sisters as they continue to handle the world's freight while providing for their families
