The 2013 Schedule Is Set For Mary Star High Football

The 2013 high school football season is drawing near, and for Mary Star Of The Sea High football, it's a chance to build up last year's amazing turnaround season where they went from an 0-10 campaign in 2011 to a 4-6 mark with a third place finish in the Del Rey League and a spot in the CIF-Southern Section Northwest Division playoffs.

A promising future is bright for the Stars as they have an even schedule, but two of their toughest games in the Del Rey League are both on the road against defending league champion La Salle of Pasadena and runner-up Bishop Montgomery of Torrance. St. Bernard of Playa Del Rey, who won the league two years ago, also returns after not fielding a varsity team last season, and will provide another stiff road test.

Not to mention, the early part of the schedule has Mary Star hitting the road for three out of their first four games, including a long road trip to Aquinas of San Bernadino for their season opener.

Head coach Mike Marinkovich does return a splendid group of talent such as senior quarterback Tyler Sestich, who should now exclusively be the man under center after sharing snaps with the graduated Jeremy Atencio. Senior RB Shane Nunez, senior OL/DL Matt Orebo and senior FB/DB James McDonald are returning All-Del Rey League selections for the Stars.

Senior WR/DB Robert Bruschi and senior TE/DL Neven Skoblar will also figure to be vital components to the Stars' success as they will challenge for the Del Rey League title.
