Last week Congresswoman Janice Hahn opened her new congressional district office in San Pedro. Several hundred people attended the opening at 140 West 6th Street. Hahn wants the office to be very accessible to her constituency "this is a great opportunity to have an open house and let people know that we are on their side and any problems they have they have in the Federal Government, we are here to help them," she said. Justice For All?

At the recent community dinner held by the Occupy San Pedro group a number of people got up to speak.  There were two main themes that came out of the speakers.  We are fighting for JUSTICE and we are concerned about our community, San Pedro.  There were three who stood out in my mind.

One speaker was Sherry whose home is threatened, she said she usually sits back but is tired of seeing the banks win and knows that SHE has to DO something to help get justice.  Her story is…

LA CITY Council 15 District endorsement: Mavar supports experienced "local boy make good"

A new representative for the Los Angeles City Council 15th District will be elected on January 17, 2012. As constituents, we will expect our new Councilperson to be assessable, listen to our concerns, and take action to resolve issues. Most importantly, he’ll need to “hit the ground running”. In my opinion, Joe Buscaino is the best candidate for the job.

Joe Buscaino is committed with his heart and soul and has the vision and focus to work on the important issues facing our district.…

San Pedro's Version of Occupy L.A.

San Pedro has it's own little piece of the Occupy movement,  the group Occupy San Pedro.  They have already held three demonstrations at local banks.  First, Wells Fargo, followed by Bank of America on Pacific Ave. and finally, Chase.  There's no doubt that San Pedro residents are being hit hard by the financial crisis.  The number of foreclosures is a clear indication of that.  Since it is a San Pedro group, made up of locals, there is an interest in helping those who are struggling in our…

Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro as we know it is forever gone

Following the detachement of 600 feet of Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro on Sunday, November 20,  City of Los Angeles engineers assessed Monday morning. A geological survey will begin immediately and last six month.

San Pedro has many roots in the small island village of Komiza, Croatia

The small island village of Komiza, Croatia played a big role in the population of San Pedro starting in the 1920's. San Pedro and Komiza are so connected that San Pedro is mentioned in the first few sentences in Komiza's Wikipedia page.
