South Shores Homeowner's meeting 1/24/2012 - Follow up 2/16/12

The annual HOA matters were taken care of between approximately 6:30pm and 7:00 pm.

Afterwards a Deputy Engineer for the city gave a brief summary of the status of the slide on Paseo Del Mar. They are still monitoring the slide and adjoining area. The rep was asked by a homeowner just what "options" there might be for repairing the damaged area, but no answer is available yet. Many homeowners felt that the city will just go with the cheapest option, which is nothing. The group…

PLEASE folks, do NOT leave your cars unlocked and certainly NOT with valuables in sight!

My neighbor had a visitor over the weekend, who left his car unlocked. With his laptop and check book in sight. Needless to say it only took a couple of minutes for someone to come by and take them. 30 minutes later the thief was already attempting to cash one of his checks for a hefty amount!

*NOTE* - the "victim" says he is pretty sure this was a young female (as he saw a female near his car) and that the thief is a smoker,…

COUNCILMAN BUSCAINO INTRODUCES MOTION FOR SKATEBOARDING SAFETY

At the request of the LAPD, I have introduced a motion that instructs the City Attorney to work with the Department of Transportation, along with the Los Angeles Police Department as necessary, to draft an ordinance amending the Los Angeles Municipal Code so that the unsafe skateboarding activity referred to as "bombing" is prohibited on San Pedro streets.

I don't want to ban skateboarding in the San Pedro streets. We are raising…

Frisbee fines story clarified - Frisbees NOT banned

The reported “Frisbee Ban” is actually a misunderstanding, somehow perpetuated by social media, news sources etc… It appears that the intended rule or change to rules, was to allow officials/lifeguards etc, to designate areas at any given time for Frisbee tossing and other sports, based upon conditions at the beach.

The Daily Breeze has the corrected information in their paper today and on their website.

My conversation with an LAPD officer on the "rules of the road" for driving around skateboarders

Being concerned about our kids skateboarding, and wondering what the rules & laws are for drivers, I asked an LAPD Sr. Lead Officer, for our area, to offer her insight. (Please be mindful that a driver should NEVER leave the scene of an accident, even if the driver is not at fault. I believe that is a serious violation of the law.) - MB

“As far as what protections the driver's have if they hit a skateboarder, it is of course always dependent on the nature of…

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time:  Lv 13:1-2, 44-46; 1 Cor 10:31-11:1; Mk 1:40-45

Throughout its history, leprosy has been feared and misunderstood. For a long time leprosy was thought to be a hereditary disease, a curse, or a punishment from God. Before and even after the discovery of its biological cause, leprosy patients were stigmatized and shunned. For example, in Europe during the Middle Ages, leprosy sufferers had to wear special clothing, ring…
