Sad passing of Ramona Hahn

Whether one is a supporter of Janice Hahn, or not, we should all recognize her sad and painful loss.

Ramona Hahn was a pillar of strength, - charming, gracious and always astute and insightful.

She stood for her beliefs strongly and without ever wavering.

I am particularly sorry that she did not get to see her daughter become a Congresswoman. But both Ramona and Kenny must both be very proud of a…

Fireworks in San Pedro and Los Angeles

Despite the fact that fireworks are banned in Los Angeles and many of its sister cities, they really know how to do the Fourth of July right.

My wife loves firework displays. In LA alone, we've seen fireworks from the Colorado St. bridge in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl show and from the deck of a home in the Palos Verdes hills watching the panorama from…

The Economy May Be Growing Once Again, But It Certainly Isn't Growing Fast Enough

(Originally posted on The Huffington Post, 6/23/11)

Americans are facing their greatest economic challenge in generations, and they need to hear from their prospective representatives what we're going to do about it.

That's why ever since the beginning of this campaign, I've been talking about my green jobs plan, entitled, "Green Jobs & Peace: A Plan to…

Readings for this Sunday of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ:

Dt 8:2-3, 14b-16a; 1 Cor 10:16-17; Jn 6:51-58

Recently I was conversing with a young lady who was interested in the Catholic Church, and when I began to attempt to explain the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, she responded, "Why not?  Why couldn't the God who created the universe choose to make himself present in His Body and Blood in the Eucharist?"  This is…

Pentecost Sunday Readings: Acts 2:1-11;

1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13; Jn 20:19-23

As I write this pastor message we are expecting extraordinary thunder storms during the month of June.  I have always been amazed and a little fearful of the power and beauty of thunder and lightning.  I realize that science is able to explain this phenomenon, but it reminds us  of the unseen power that is present in the universe and world that we are a part of.  For the…
