U.S. Coast Guard-Auxiliary Class

The U.S. Coast Guard-Auxiliary is set to begin a class on Sailing Skills and Seamanship on Aug. 14 in Long Beach at the police station, 5375 E. 2nd St. (corner of 2nd St. and Claremont).

The eight-week course will cover sailboat types, how a boat sails, basic sailboat maneuvering, rigging and boat handling, safety equipment, trailering, safety equipment, aids to navigation, auxiliary engines, weather, and the boat's radio, among other things.

Boating Skills and Seamanship Class to Begin

The U.S. Coast Guard-Auxiliary is set to teach Boating Skills and Seamanship starting July 7 in Los Alamitos.

Boat handling, trailering, navigation, weather, communications, aids to navigation, among other things, will be taught in the 11-week course.

The class is free, but the textbook and materials cost $40.

Many insurance companies offer discounts for successful completion of courses such as this one.

Despite the fact that fireworks are banned in Los Angeles and many of its sister cities, they really know how to do the Fourth of July right. My wife loves firework displays.
