It was my pleasure, representing the City of Los Angeles, to participate in the many amazing Fourth of July events in San Pedro. From the 26th annual flag raising at the Villa family home on 18th St. in San Pedro to the annual Korean Friendship Bell ringing to the commissioning of the Iowa and lastly the fireworks at Cabrillo Beach it was an epic day for me personally. For the past six years on the fourth, I worked the streets as an LAPD officer keeping the community safe from illegal…

Recently, we had an "exciting" afternoon in South Shores, and I want to share information we received regarding this event from our SLO Officer Wight:
"I just wanted to give you all a quick update. During the day on 06/06/2012 a group of four male Hispanics were seen distributing flyers in South Shores. And because our Neighborhood Watchers are attentive and proactive, a number of you called it in. The information that I received is a number of Officers responded to the area,…

I hope someday, someone who wants to start a business in downtown San Pedro, does a craft store. Sure we have Crafted coming soon, but we need a craft store! It doesn't have to be a chain store like JoAnn's or a Michael's. And I know we have (still?) a hobby store, but we gals & the kids want a craft store! We have SO many empty storefronts on 6th street lately, for example.
Or maybe someone at Crafted at the Port of L.A. can set this…

The article below is reprinted from June 2008; nearly four years ago. Remember 2008? There was hope and change in the air, we elected Obama. Has anything changed? You bet it has! When I wrote this in 2008 I too had hope, hope for the have-nots. Unfortunately we've gone backwards since our last election. Will we make the same mistake again? …

In case you didn't know DWP is upgrading the water meters. I just spoke with a DWP employee out on our street.
They will be switching to a unit that can be read "electronically" or remotely. This will result in greater efficiency. It will only mean a reduction in staff by attrition.
So if you noticed a slight "hesitation" by the water coming out of your pipes, today or recently, it is likely due to this upgrade, as they of course have to turn off your water for just a few…
